Genealogy, Co Fermanagh

Fermanagh is in the South West of the Province of Ulster. It's most western point is just four miles from the Atlantic Ocean. At it's Eastern side it runs into the Clogher Valley in Co. Tyrone, which leads both to the former heart of Gaelic Ulster and was also an important area for communication and settlement for those who came from Britain in the seventeenth century and after.

The County was formed in the late sixteenth century from "Maguire's country', the area over which that family had established it's superiority during the previous four centuries.

The people of Fermanagh have over 2000 surnames and all of them have stories to be told. Each individual may be identified by only one name.
